This evening I'm going to make the rather long journey from Chicago to Indy for the GP. It's going to be about 220miles to get do the hotel where my 4 friends and I are going to share one room (because we're cheap). Its been about 18 months since I've made a trip that long on my bike and it's the first time I'm doing the planning myself.
Last night I did all the preparation I could think of, checked the oil, coolant, tire pressures and generally inspected my bike. I packed by waterproof rafting bag with everything I thought I'd need, including a reasonable set of tools.
I test fitted the bag on the bike using a cargo net and a couple bunge chords and then went for a ride with all my gear to make sure there weren't going to be any issues with stuff moving around. It all went great, other than me momentarily loosing my key before the ride.
Navigation should be fine, you can see my GPS mount under the windshield in the picture and I also hand wrote some directions that I'm going to tape to the tank.
Should be a helluva fun time. I just hope no jerk steals my stuff while it's parked at the track on Sunday
So for people who do this more than me, did I miss anything?

If your bike's factory tool kit doesn't have a plug wrench, pack that too. You probably only need three, four at most of those bits for the screwdriver... I'm spoiled by the BMW factory tool kit... Also, a flashlight. ALWAYS duct tape and a flashlight. (that is duct tape in the little silver roll right?)

yeah, there's a plug wrench in the tool kit, it sucks and frankly I was tempted to bring my better one. You're right about the screw driver too, though the bike uses some hex screws to hold the fairings on so I need more of those bits than you'd think. It's true I could have reduced it to one of the 4 bit sets, but they're small and don't weigh much so I said screw it and brought the whole lot of them.
yes, that silver roll is duct tape and I do have a flashlight packed, it just wasn't in the picture. This whole kit is rolled up in a long paper towel and sealed in a gallon zip lock bag on the top of all my cloths in the rafting bag.

Both good bikes. My first was a 500. They are pretty much bulletproof. I have heard of people putting slicks on them at the track and setting great lap times.

yeah, it pretty much is bulletproof. It's amazing how much fun 26HP can be.
In the twistys it's as fast or faster than much larger displacement bikes.
People do race them and I've been tempted to take if for a trackday as well but I'd have to get a full set of leathers and I can't justify the money for those right now.

I know what you mean. I'm 2 hours from Barber but I don't have full leathers. If you know your size, keep an eye on forums for used stuff. Way cheaper.
